It is with great sadness, we, the Williams/Peckham family regret to announce the tragic passing of David Williams, 30, of Scotchtown, N.S., on Jan. 25, 2016 at the University of Alberta Hospital with his loving family by his side. David was injured in an explosion while working on shift at the Nexen Long Lake facility located outside Fort McMurray, Alta.
Born on Sept. 21, 1985, in New Waterford, N.S., David is the son of Michael & Bernice (Peckham) Williams; brother of Duke (Cherie), Michael (Kayla) and Archie (Kaitlyn) Williams.
David graduated from Breton Education Centre & NSCC Strait Area Campus from the Millwright Program. He then travelled to Alberta and became a Journeyman Millwright. David had accomplished great things in his short life. He was a hard worker and enjoyed life to the fullest. David loved coming home to Cape Breton to spend time with his father, mother, brothers and family and friends. He also enjoyed boating and fishing with his father, loved partying with his brothers, Duke, Michael and Archie and gaming online with his nephew, Branden. After work, David would often spend hours on the phone with Cherie, who was like the sister he never had. David was there to share his nephew Austin’s first legal drink with him and often talked about taking him travelling. He was a dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan, had a heart of gold and a special gift to bring happiness and love to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. David was a proud Cape Bretoner and loved his family more than anything in this world.
He is an inspiration in life and death. David has inspired so many to chase their dreams, that anything is possible. He has taught us all what it means to love unconditionally. David will be remembered for his contagious smile that could brighten even the darkest of days. His strength and passion for life will carry on through his family.
In addition to his immediate family, David is survived by his maternal grandmother, Agnes Peckham; aunts, Mary (Gary) Petrie, Debbie Peckham (Billy); uncles, Ervin (Marion) Williams, Charlie (Liz) Williams, Archie (Susan) Williams, Wesley Peckham and Bernie (Darlene) Peckham; nephews, Austin, Branden, Cobee, Zach and niece, Alicia and many cousins.
David was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Ervin and Angel (LeMoine) Williams and maternal grandfather, Bernie Peckham.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2nd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Wednesday, Feb. 3rd, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
Little did we know that morning,
God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
Our Hero
Love Mom, Dad and Brothers
