MELANSON, PHILIAS "PHIL"
1935-2016
Philias Melanson, 80, of Moncton, passed away peacefully with his family and loved ones at his side, at the Palliative Care Unit of the CHU Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Born on April 15, 1935 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Ernest and Généreuse (Bourgeois) Melanson of Haute-Aboujagane.
Phil was the owner/operator of Phil's Lite Trucking. He was a long-time member of Council #6468 of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid hunter and guide, a distinguished bowler and also loved to play cards and pool.
Phil was a loving father and friend. He will be sadly missed by his special friend, Martina Langis and family; his son, Robert of St-Antoine; his daughters: Paulette Simpson (late Robert), Monique Clowater (Rodney) and Denise Hicks (Lawton), all of Moncton; two sisters: Sister Rita Melanson, p.s.s.f., of Sherbrooke, QC, and Madelaine LeBlanc (Joseph) of Moncton; three brothers: Gerard (Louise), Stanislas (Lylia) and Roger (late Aurelda), all of Ear Falls, ON; seven grandchildren: Gabrielle, Kyle, Matthew, Brianna, Caitlin, Morgan and Jamie-Lynn; as well as several nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jeannette (née Vautour) and his brother, Laurie (late Edna).
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude towards the doctors and nurses of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC Palliative Care Unit, The Moncton Hospital and the Extra Mural Program for their excellent care provided to Phil.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) from where the funeral service will be celebrated Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 10:30 am. Visiting hours are from 9:30 am until time of funeral (10:30). A reception will follow at the centre. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe.
