Greta Purdy

The family of Greta Alta Purdy age 95 of Amherst are saddened to announce her passing on Saturday, January 30, 2016, with her family by her side at the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Maude E. (Milner) Hastings.
Greta was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Amherst, where she attended as a young girl in CGIT. She was also a Sunday School Teacher and later belonged to the Married Couples group.
Greta loved to travel and said that everyone should see Canada first. She especially liked flying and took her first trip in an 8 seater plane to PEI in 1942.
She also loved spending time with her husband Len and family at the shore in Northport, where they had their trailer.
At different times over the years, Greta shared her home and her heart with her cats, which she loved dearly.
Greta will be lovingly remembered by her son, David (Lynda), Amherst; daughter, Cheryl Purdy, Bridgewater, NS; five grandchildren, Christian and Darren Purdy, Corry Peeters, Kelly Babineau and Kevin Babineau; five great grandsons, Dawson, Kaiden, Joshua, Leeland and Tristan; brothers, Ronald, Amherst, Eldon (Hilda), Dartmouth and Gerald (Marjorie), Fredericton NB; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Greta was predeceased by her husband, Leonard in 1984; sisters, Grace Hastings, Francis Smith and Marion Lowerison.
Visitations will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 2 -4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. with funeral service Wednesday, February, 3, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Donnie Miller officiating, all being held at Campbell’s Funeral Home, (98 Church St. Amherst 902-667-9906).
Interment will take place in the spring, in the Amherst Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Greta’s memory to the First Baptist Church or to the Diabetic Association.
