Ellen "Beverley" MacLeod

MacLEOD, ELLEN "BEVERLEY"
Ellen "Beverley" MacLeod (Cook), 89, died January 29, 2016 in Bedford, Nova Scotia
(To ease her family’s burden, she planned her service and wrote her own obituary. Thanks, mum.)
I was born August 11, 1926 in Saint John, NB, daughter of the late Malcolm and Elsie (Allan) Cook. I grew up in the 1 Mile House, graduated from Saint John Vocational School, and worked as a secretary. Following my marriage to the late Rev. Theo (Ted) MacLeod, I worked side by side my husband throughout his years of ministry in the provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. A true believer, it was a joy for me to be involved in the congregations Ted served. I was active in Sunday School, the United Church Womens’ groups, and led Bible Study Groups until well past age eighty. In NB, I served as president of the Saint John and district Presbyterial United Church Women and was honoured with a Lifetime membership. Always interested in music, I taught elementary piano in Westfield, Rothesay, and Halifax. The piano brought me great joy, as did the glorious voices of choirs. In retirement, I remained active in the Bedford United Church playing piano for Sunday school, was a member of UCW Friendship group, and leader of Tuesday Morning Bible Studies.
Devoted to my family, I know I will be sadly missed by my dear sons, Paul Malcolm, Halifax, and Alan Philip, Wellington, daughter-in-law, Shandi Mitchell, cousin Alan Whittaker and wife, Ruth, Saint John, NB.
Sincere appreciation to the care workers and nurses who assisted me so patiently and compassionately throughout the years including Northwood Home Care, Bedford Ivany Place, and the QEII Cardio Unit nurses and doctors. Also, to my dear family and family of many friends who contributed to my wellbeing. These dear persons were sent by God to be my ministering angels. Finally, all my friends, elders, spiritual advisors, UCW sisters, and ministers who accompanied me over these many years, I am so honoured to have known your love and to have loved you all. To God Be the Glory.
A service of thanksgiving will be held at Bedford United Church on Thursday, February 4th at 2:00pm with Rev. David Hart officiating.
Memorials to the Bedford United Church or Heart and Stroke Foundation gratefully received. Online condolences: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com. Sackville Chapel
