MATHESON, GARNET RICHARD
At Bobby's Hospice in Saint John, NB on February 1, 2016, Mr. Garnet Richard Matheson, loving husband of Linda (Hooper) Matheson of Back Bay, NB. Born at Blacks Harbour, NB on May 19, 1944, he was a son of the late Gerald and Nellie (Leslie) Matheson.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Linda, Garnet is survived by his son: Darren (Joan-Anne) Matheson of Back Bay, NB; his daughter: Lisa McKay of St. George; four grandchildren: Alexander Matheson (Cailey Gilmurray) and Kathleen Matheson both of Saint John, NB and Alyssa and Joel McKay of St. George, NB; his great grandson: Walsh McKay; one brother: Brent (Brenda) Matheson of Canal, NB; three sisters: Janet (Leo) Harmon of St. Andrews, Norma (Cyril) Hanley of Back Bay, NB and Leona (Colin) Borthwick of Breadelbane, NB as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Besides his parents, Garnet was predeceased by two brothers: Gerald and Burton; one sister: Mary French.
Garnet began his working career as an Accountant with the Bank Of Nova Scotia for six years until he entered the carpentry trade. He operated his own construction company for several years throughout the area building several homes and working on many projects. Garnet also loved farming and had formerly owned and managed an aquaculture site for a number of years where he raised Salmon, and recently on land, his hobby farm in St. George where he grew wonderful strawberries and vegetables as well as had a few animals. Garnet loved the outdoors and had a love of snowmobiling, though his greatest passion was spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB. Visitation will be held at the Sea View Full Gospel Church, Back Bay, NB on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9pm. The service will take place at the church on Wednesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Gordon Cooke and Pastor Jason Hooper officiating. The interment will be held in the St. George Rural Cemetery in the spring.
In Garnet's memory, donations to Charlotte County Cancer Society or Bobby's Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
