PATTERSON, RHODA
Mrs. Rhoda Ethel Patterson (nee Adair) formerly of Norton passed away peacefully at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on January 31, 2016 at the age of 82. Born July 5, 1933 in Penobsquis she was the daughter of the late James A. and Eva (Bunnell) Adair.
Rhoda was the loving wife of the late C. Grenville (Pat) Patterson who passed away in 1998 and is survived by her daughter Debbie Patterson and her husband Stephen Curry (Halifax, NS); her son Doug Patterson and wife Darlene (Coquitlam, BC); two grandsons Dylan and Dakota Patterson; her sister-in-law Betty Adair (Penobsquis, NB); sister-in-law Myrtle (Patterson) Wingrove (Oshawa, Ont) and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Rhoda is also predeceased by three sisters Lilian Parlee, Ruth Mower and Cora Lewis and one brother Russell Adair.
Rhoda graduated from Sussex High School in 1952 after which she worked as a teacher in Wards Creek and Cody’s with nieces and nephews as students. Rhoda was very active in the church where she was a part of the choir, taught Sunday School, was a member of the WMS, served as treasurer and occasionally filled in as pianist.
In the community, Rhoda was equally as active and well known for years of service as a Cub Leader and Treasurer for the District Canadian Boy Scouts.
Rhoda’s greatest legacy may well be the hundreds of students, young and old that she taught piano. Money was never a primary objective and students were never turned away for lack of it. She enjoyed giving the lessons and was always proud of her students and the recitals she would put on with them.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitations will be held on Thursday, February 4th from 1 to 4 PM and 6 to 9 PM. A service celebrating Mrs. Patterson’s life will be held at the Norton United Baptist on Friday, February 5th at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, if you are considering making a memorial donation, the family has recommended the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or The War Amps.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, Aunt and friend, Rhoda had a never-say-die, positive attitude passing that will leave a void for many generations of family and friends. We all love you as you loved us!
