It is with heavy hearts that the family of Elizabeth (Betty) Marjorie Smith age 88 of Amherst announce her sudden passing on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late William and Maude (Brown) Shea.
Betty worked at the Metropolitan Store, the Old Woolworth Store and National Specialty from where she retired.
Betty was a faithful long serving member of the First Baptist Church, Amherst, where she was past President and founding member of the First Baptist Mothers Association as well as serving on various other boards and committees. She was also a member of the 50+ Senior club, and Rebekah Lodge. Betty volunteered in many other aspects throughout her community. She will be missed by her Tim Horton’s friends.
She will be fondly remembered by her son, David (Kathy) and their children, Shawn and Kelsey; daughter Trudy (Ronnie) Black and their children, Emily and Oliver; brother, James (Laura) Shea of Dartmouth, NS; several nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Ross; sister, Muriel Gould; brothers William, Ronald and Douglas.
As per Mom’s wishes a Celebration of Life honoring her Legacy will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 between 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the vestry of the First Baptist Church, Amherst.
Burial will take place in the spring in the Amherst Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst, 902-667-9906.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the First Baptist Church, the Cumberland VON or Diabetic Association.
