May Williams passed away in Calgary on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the age of 87 years.
May graduated from the Charlottetown Hospital School of Nursing as an RN in 1949 and joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a nurse Sub-Lieutenant in 1951. She left the navy in 1956 to marry. John and May lived in England, California, Halifax, Winnipeg, Victoria, and retired in Ottawa, where May went to Carleton University after her sons had all left home. She graduated in 1993 with a B.A. in History.
In 1999 she moved to Calgary to be near four of her sons, and enjoyed the city and many new friends very much. She was a volunteer with St. Mary's Cathedral and loved the Calgary Public Library.
Mother of Peter, Andrew (Kathy), Stephen (Amy), Thomas (Anne) and Timothy; grandmother of Stephen's Kyle and Leah, Tom and Anne's Sheila and Thomas, and Tim's Stella and Gus. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Brigadier General (Ret'd) John A. Williams, OMM CD, on August 7, 1997 in Ottawa.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 - 18th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 1 p.m. Interment in Ottawa at Hope Cemetery. In memory of May Williams, if friends so desire, contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
