SMITH, ROSE MARIE (DONOVAN)
Rose Marie (Donovan) Smith, 77, of Riverview, with her loving family at her side, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Centre on Friday, February 5, 2016.
Rose was raised in Canterbury, NB and was the daughter of the late Don and Hilda (Grant) Donovan. She loved the village. She sang in the St. Thomas Church choir and was very active in school sports and music. She met her husband Ralph while training at the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing (class of 1960), and had a long career in psychiatric nursing in many parts of Canada.
Rose and Ralph retired in Grand Barachois where Rose continued to be active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and enjoyed her turn reading at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Pointe-de-Chene. She looked forward to the many gatherings of her children and their families at the "beach house".
Rose had a lot of vitality and was fascinated by people and their stories. She was not reluctant to speak her mind. She had character, and this endeared her to many people.
Rose leaves behind her loving husband of 57 years, Ralph; her children, Stephen of Ottawa, ON, Shawn of Quesnel, BC, Stewart (Chantal Caron) of Orléans, ON and Susan Richard (Marc) of Quispamsis; her precious grandchildren, Chloe, Julian, Joshua and Nathan; her sister, Margaret “Peg” Donovan; her aunt, Agnes Delong; several cousins and many loyal friends.
La famille tient à remercier le personnel de l'Hôpital Georges- L. Dumont pour sa compassion et son dévouement.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
