Kehler, Robert “Bob”
Robert “Bob” KEHLER of Calgary, AB, formerly of Swift Current, SK went to be with Jesus on January 31, 2016 while living at Wentworth Manor. The memorial service will be held at the Westside King’s Church in Calgary, AB on February 20, 2016 at 10:30 am with a reception to immediately follow.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Mary Kehler. He is survived by his wife, Judy Kehler, his three children: Michael (Melanie), Calgary, AB; Gerry (Lisa), Houston, TX; Dan (Aimee), Spruce Grove, AB, and eight grandchildren: Braden Kehler, Amy Kehler, Jaelyn Kehler, Taliesin Kehler, Wesley Kehler, Caedmon Kehler, Chelsea Kehler and Soren Kehler. Robert is also survived by his six siblings, Rose (Don) Thiessen, Walter (Anne), Irene (Terry) Jones, Linda (Rob) Redekop, Art (Connie) Kehler, and Grace Peters.
Robert was born February 20, 1944 in Swift Current, SK. He grew up on his family farm in Schoenfeldt , SK. The son of a preacher, Robert’s faith in Jesus began early. When he was 16, he attended trade school in Edmonton, AB and became a journeyman mechanic. Four years later, Robert met and married Judy and they settled in Swift Current. There he started Bojo Automotive and became a successful mechanic and business owner. In 1975, Robert and Judy bought a farm near Webb, SK where he farmed for ten years. In 1985, Robert left the farm and returned to Swift Current. For the next few years, Robert worked first for Standard Motors, helped start Superior Meats and Quality Meats, and last, owned the Goodyear Tire Dealership. During these years, Robert continued to demonstrate his faith through his commitment and work at Trailview Alliance Church.
In 1992, Robert and Judy sold everything and moved to Calgary, AB where they made a new home. Robert worked for several car dealerships over the first few years but eventually settled into a career of home renovation contractor. It was during this time that he made a name for himself by generously helping people with automotive and small home repairs. Robert was committed to living out his faith through both Bethany Chapel and Westside King’s Church.
By 2005, Robert wasn’t always himself and he struggled with his confidence. Yet during this time, his faith in God never wavered. By 2008, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In 2010, Robert moved into the Wentworth Manor where he was cared for by wonderful staff and by daily visits from Judy. Robert died three weeks before his 72nd birthday.
A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held at Westside Kings Church (3939 69 St SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca.
