Mary (Mimi) McLean-Spear

McLean-Spear, Mary (Mimi) Elizabeth
1929 – 2016
Mimi Spear of Riverview passed away at Lakeview Manor on Friday, February 26, 2016. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Foley) and Allan (AMA) McLean.
Growing up in Black’s Harbour, Mimi had a lifelong passion for writing. In her earlier years she pursued this avenue which led her on a journey that enabled her to share this wonder and excitement with others. While attending Mount Allison and Acadia University, she had several pieces published, including poetry, and had a way of bringing about many diverse emotions within her readers as she so elegantly expressed her thoughts, ideas and imagination in her work. She shared this passion with her late husband, Cyril. Together they founded the Moncton Free Press. Aside from her love of writing, Mimi was an enthusiastic bridge player and a proud member of the Professional Engineer’s Wives Club. Having been a widow for 38 years, her children and grandchildren were her life. She was completely devoted to her family and loved them with a deep profound love that they will remember for years to come.
She will be dearly missed by her loving daughters, Diane of Riverview, Elizabeth of Moncton, and Mary Ellen of St. Catharines; sons, Andy of Toronto and David of Winnipeg; sisters, Irene Dobbins of St. Albert, AB and Joan May of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren, Amanda, Ashton and Alyssa; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Cyril (Cy) in 1978 and a grandson, Sam.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview (869-2007) on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00pm. A service will take place from Cobb’s Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Monday, February 29 at 11:00am with Rev. Brent Ham officiating. Donations made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca
The family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Telfer, Dr. Fitch and all those who took care of Mimi over the past few years. Your thoughtfulness and professionalism did not go unnoticed.
