Jean Albina Palmeter - 87, of North Grand Pré, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016, in Shannex-Blomidon Court, Greenwich. Born in Factorydale, she was a daughter of the late William and Emma (Palmer) Hiltz. Her first teaching experience was in North Grand Pré, prior to her graduating from the Provincial Normal College, Truro in 1947. She was a teacher, homemaker and helped run a successful farming operation, Marshcrest Farms, North Grand Pré, with her late husband, Everett. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Kings Historical Society, Lower Horton U.C.W. as well as a life member of the Grand Pré Women’s Institute. Jean was a keen genealogist, historian and story teller, who enjoyed connecting people through genealogy. Jean was an avid reader and saw the value in keeping an ample supply of books around her home for her children to read. She had a huge library in her home that she would graciously share. She is survived by children, Craig, Windsor; Robert (Ann), North Grand Pré; Carol Versteeg, Hardwoodlands; Allister (Vina), North Grand Pré; Ian (Jenny Wolfe), Wolfville; Tim (Margo), Ajax, Ontario; Paul (Victoria), Lake Echo; sister, Margaret (the late Bill) Ogilvie, Ottawa; grandchildren, Beverly Palmeter (Donald Cluney), Jeffrey Palmeter (Chris Lischkoff), Andrea (Scott) Barrett, Tony (Erica MacInnis) Versteeg, Chris (Jennifer Mazzerole) Versteeg, Rachel (Craig) Foote, Scott Palmeter (Dana Morrison), Michael Porter, Sarah Palmeter, Cameron Palmeter, Taylor Palmeter and Colin Palmeter; great grandchildren, Ryan, Alex and Cassidy Barrett, Gerrit, Maria, James and Lise Versteeg, Sarah, Anneka, Jocelyn and John Versteeg, John and Adam Foote; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Everett Westcott Palmeter; brothers, Harley (the late Frances) and Arthur; son-in-law, John Versteeg. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. A private family burial took place in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré. Family flowers only.
