Emma Jane Wadsworth

Emma Jane Wadsworth (nee Wheatley) died peacefully on March 1, 2016 from complications from a fall. Em was born on the homestead south of Parkbeg. When her family moved into the town they lost everything in a fire that destroyed a block of the main street. The family then moved into Moose Jaw where Em spent the rest of her life. She attended Victoria School and Central Collegiate, and graduated as a Medical Laboratory Technologist from the Providence Hospital. She received an Advanced Registered Technologist designation for her work completed in immunology with hairy cell leukemia. Her first job was a 6 month stint in Maple Creek where she helped set up the laboratory at the new town hospital. She later worked at Valley View, teaching microbiology to nursing students at the Providence Hospital, and finishing her career as head of Blood Bank and Hematology at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Em was artistic and loved needlework, quilting, photography, poetry, and travel. Many people were recipients of her handiwork. Em met Bud (H.E.) Wadsworth while in high school. They were married for 52 years and raised two children. She is predeceased by her husband Bud (H.E.) Wadsworth, parents William and Margaret (Conway) Wheatley, mother-in-law and father-in-law Albert and Winnie Wadsworth, brothers and sisters-in-law Stanley and Dede (dela Hey) Wheatley and Horace and Winnifred (Wolstencroft) Wheatley, brothers-in-law Gary Wadsworth, Norm Wray, Larry Wagner and Ray Crane, and sister-in-law Eileen Wadsworth. Emma is survived by her children Laurie Ann Wadsworth and Ed (Vicki) Wadsworth, brother and sister-in-law Russell and Esther Wheatley and numerous cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She will be missed by her family and many friends. Special thanks to aunts Linda Wagner and Sandra Wray for their constant support during this difficult time. We are grateful to the doctors and nurses of the SICU at Regina General Hospital and Dr. A. VanHeerden and the nurses and staff of the Medicine Wing at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Unit 26, 1738 Quebec Ave, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1V9 (www.heartandstroke.sk.ca), the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association, P.O. Box 3843, Regina, SK, S4P 3Y3 (www.sbia.ca), or to a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews United Church, 60 Athabasca St. E, Moose Jaw, with Reverend Jim Tenford officiating.
