Ruth Elizabeth Thomas, 97 years of Springhill, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre with her family by her side.
Born in Maccan, NS, she was a daughter of the Late Eleanor and John (Matheson) Matheson.
She was a Life Member of Cumberland Lodge # 5, Pythian Sisters, a Past Mistress of the LOBA Lodge, a member of the Brookdale Community Club and sang with the Barber Shoppers Harmony. She enjoyed playing cards, especially a game of 45's. She loved to listen to music and always enjoyed dancing.
She will be sadly missed by her son Bill Churchill, Heather's Beach; daughter, Jean (Eldon) McCormack, Brookdale; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; daughter in law Shirley Thomas, Moncton; sister in law Margaret Matheson, Amherst several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alton Thomas; son Gary Thomas; two infant children; sisters, Christina, Hattie, Kate and Mame; brothers, Hughie, Donald and Jim.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) where visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service for Ruth Thomas will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 2 pm, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating from the Wesley United Church, Springhill. Burial in Thompson Cemetery, in the spring.
Ruth's family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the ICU and the Medical Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Center for their care and love.
