Oliver Bastien

Oliver Edward Bastien
Aug 13, 1933 ~ March 10, 2016

With sorrow in our hearts we announce the passing of OEB, “Ozz”. He lived everyday to the fullest and brightened the lives of all he encountered. Farmer, Drywaller, Carpenter, Crane Operator (land and sea), Handyman Extraordinaire, Cowboy. Forest Gump and John Wayne rolled into unforgettable blue eyes, a kind spirit, funny stories and boundless energy. Oliver wore many hats, but his favourite would be any hat that sheltered him from the Tuxford sun shining down while he worked the family farm atop an old model R Deere until he died. Between harvests, he carved dugouts across Saskatchewan, built and renovated homes in California, BC and SK. Oliver taught through stories and his own glimmering examples how to live the fullest life: Do not worry about grammar, care about the message. Never, ever, cry over spilled milk, flat tires in -30, or dead car batteries at 2 am. Wear your heart on your sleeve. Help others tirelessly. Don’t pass up the opportunity to nap. Make everyone you meet feel validated, respected and important. Spoil your children and pass on your talent, skills and pride. Deeply love the woman in your life. Always do more in a day than a regular person might think possible in a week. And fit more in your truck than physics would permit. Oliver is survived by his wife Janet, children Todd, Jodi, Megan, Deirdre, Hannah, Lindy, Norma, Jeremy, and Holly; siblings Sheila, Len, Ed, Beulah, Joyce; predeceased by his parents Edward and Olive, siblings Earnest, Gloria, Anna and Linda and former wife Ona. In lieu of flowers, use your unique talents and good fortune to help someone in your community in need of a friend, a helping hand or a smile. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Aidan Anglican Church, 124 1st Ave NE, Moose Jaw, SK.
