Florence Kathleen Munroe, 11 Poplar Crest, Stellarton, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on Friday, March 18, 2016,
Florence was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Born in 1922 in New Glasgow, she was the only daughter of the late Duncan and Isabel (MacEachern) Chisholm,
She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Francis, her husband, Robert J, her cousin/foster sister, Alice MacEachern Avery Midwinter, Alice’s son, Wayne Avery, and step daughter, Mary.
She is survived by nieces and two step-children.
Her early career began in the office of Dr. William MacQuarrie before moving on to her life’s work with the Nova Scotia Government Department of Transportation.
During her working years she devoted much of her time to caring for both of her parents. She married later in life and when her husband became ill, she cared for him.
She is fondly remembered by her extended family in Hamilton, Ontario, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Norway, Bermuda and Pictou County.
She held in high regard her step-granddaughter, Kathryn Maroun (Lou) and very much appreciated the care and concern for her shown by her cousin, Heather, Heather’s son, Mark and daughter, Melissa, her exceptional caregiver, Kathy Sutherland, and close friends, Alex and Bernadette MacDonald and Donald and Martha MacDonald of Stellarton.
At Florence’s request, there will be no visitation. As a tribute to her memory, please pass along an act of sincere kindness to another, especially those who live alone.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at 2pm from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Angus MacDougall presiding.
Burial will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Pictou County Food Bank or to a charity of your choice.
