Joseph passed away March 20, 2016 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital at the age of 92. A longtime respected resident of Scotchtown, Joseph was the son of the late Louis and Anthonia (Horwath) Van Doninck.
Joe was a retired coal miner and veteran of the Second World War.
Survived by children, Louis (Gloria), Joseph (Rose), Francis Martin, John (Dolores); sister, Norma Drapeau; brother, Bernie; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Joe was predeceased by his wife, Tillie (Bourgeois); stepson, Harold Penny (Marcella); stepdaughter, Jean Penny Knapman; sisters, Annie, Lily; brothers, Frank and John (MacDonald); sons-in-law, John Martin and Bob Knapman.
As a man who never desired attention there will be no visitation or service per his request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
Joe was a lover of animals and regular supporter of the local SPCA and Wildlife Park, donations may be made to either on his behalf.
