Annie E. Gray, age 86, of Devon, Pennsylvania passed away on March 15, 2016.
She was the beloved wife of Donald C. Gray and formerly the late Harold Ralph Young.
Born in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of Stephen and Rachel Murphy.
After beginning school in Louisbourg, Annie was given the opportunity to attend and graduate from the Edgehill School for Girls in Windsor, No.S. Upon graduation, she attended the Empire School of Business in Sydney. Annie’s first job was for Canadian Tire in Halifax. She was transferred back to Cape Breton, where she obtained a position with the National Sea Products plant in Louisbourg. While working at the plant, she met a visiting auditor from Boston - Harold Young.
She married Harold and moved to the States in 1954.
Annie was the loving mother of Stephen (Beth) Young, Neil (Cindy) Young and Nancy (Steve) Rock. She was also the dear Grammy of Stephen (Jessica), Jason (Laura), Ian, Derek, Rachel, John Wesley and Adrianna.
In 1968, she began working at Eastern University in Saint Davids, Pennsylvania where she held numerous administrative positions for 30 years. At Eastern, she was known for her infectious smile and maternal spirit towards all students, especially the many international students who spent summers at her home. It was also at Eastern where she met her husband of 39 years, Don Gray.
Her family will always remember her love, strength, kindness, and faithfulness.
Relatives and friends celebrated Annie’s life on Monday, March 21 at Church of the Saviour in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
While Annie moved to the States almost 60 years ago, her heart always remained in her beloved Cape Breton.
