TEAHAN, JOHN
John Gerald Teahan, 83, of Riverview, formerly of Hopewell Cape, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2016 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Beaverbrook, Albert Co, on June 30 th1932, Gerald was the son of the late Ronald and Kathleen (Kent) Teahan.
After graduation from Riverside Consolidated School he began work with the Canadian National Railway, where he enjoyed a career of 35 years before retiring as Senior Real Estate Representative.
Gerald was a faithful, lifelong member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, in Riverside. He remained active in the Church throughout his life and served on the Board of Directors of the Holy Ghost Cemeteries. He volunteered countless hours in the care and maintenance of the four Parish cemeteries, with a special interest in the New Ireland Cemetery near Teahan’s Corner, the resting place of his ancestors.
He was also a member of the Hillsborough Kiwanis Club,the Fundy Curling Club, a founding member of the Hopewell Cape Rink and served on the Board of Directors of the Forest Dale Nursing Home.
An avid sportsman and sports fan, Gerald loved to compete in everything from hockey, baseball, curling and bowling and even coached his daughters in hockey and softball. Gerald also became the greatest fan of his grandchildren, sharing in their accomplishments and “Papa”, as he was known, rarely missed a game of their hockey, basketball and soccer.
Gerald was raised on a farm and the love of farming remained with him throughout his life, always growing a large garden and keeping farm animals. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed working on his woodlot.
Gerald had a deep love for Albert County, and it’s history and was proud of his Irish roots. He loved music and to dance and sing a fiddle jig. He enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors, always enjoying a lively game of cards, telling stories and sharing a few laughs.
But, his greatest joy was his family with the special gift of having everyone think they were his favorite. He was humble and unselfish and quick to lend a hand or help when needed.
Gerald will be remembered for his generosity and kindness and has left a legacy of the value of hard work, honesty, humility and family.
Gerald will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Steeves) Teahan of Riverview, daughters Beth Murray (Shawn) of Moncton, Anne Comeau (Ken) of Riverview, Jane Tingley (Mike) of Hopewell Cape and Amy Fenton (Mike) of Albert Mines; his treasured grandchildren, Josh Murray, Emily De Luca(Eric), Joel Murray, Nathan Sanford, Jon Sanford (Alicia), Kent and Lauren Tingley, Charles, Peter and Grace Fenton; his three precious great-grandchildren, Andie Sanford and twins Violet and Emmett De Luca; his sisters, Ardith Fenton and Loretta Legere of
Moncton and Dora Ryan of Ottawa; sister-in-law, Erna Nelson of Hopewell Cape. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by grandson Jared Tingley; brother, Oram and sisters Marion Savard and Helena Teahan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1 from 6 to 9 pm at the Albert Co. Funeral Home in Hopewell Cape. Funeral service ­Saturday April 2nd at 1pm at The Holy Ghost Church in Riverside­Albert with Father Phil Mulligan officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, NB. Following the service the family would like to invite everyone to join them at the Fundy Curling Club for further sharing of memories and for refreshments.
