Roderick  Miller

With grieving hearts we announce the passing of Roderick (Rod) Claire Miller age 88 of Brookdale on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.
Born April 21, 1927 in Brookdale, Rod was a son of the late Cecil R. and Beatrice D. (Graham) Miller.
Rod’s career path took him and Jean to Oakville Ontario, where he worked as a truck driver for Grant Haulage and later moved into the role as dispatcher until his retirement.
Following 35 years in Ontario, Rod relocated back to his home community, where he built his own home and lived there until his passing.
He was a member of the Brookdale United Church and the Amherst Golf Club, where he was especially proud of his achievement in scoring a “Hole in One.”
Rod was also an avid gardener and domino player and enjoyed bowling and playing darts.
He will be truly missed by his wife, Jean (Fraser); sons, Barry (Mary Anne), Orangeville, ON, David (Joan), Colborne, ON and Christopher (Sandra), Oakville, ON; beloved grandchildren, Stewart (Jessica), Amy, Troy (Kyla), Chad (Leanne), Wesley (Silvie) and Stephen; special great grandchildren, Sophia, Cohen, Aubrey, Evan and Tyson; sister, Mary Carter, Brookdale; as well as several nieces and nephews and he was affectionately known to all as Grumpy.
In addition to his parents, Rod was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Skinner, and Joan Trenholm; brothers, Lloyd, Donald “Bud”, and Jim.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 7 – 9 p.m. and Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 2 p.m. all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906 with Rev. Carolyn MacLeod officiating. Reception to follow in funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland County Hospice Society or the Cumberland VON.
