LONGPHEE, JOSEPH "JOE"
1936-2016
Joseph “Joe” Longphee, 79, of Moncton, formerly of Souris, PE, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness, on Tuesday April 5, 2016 at the Moncton Hospital. Born on December 27, 1936 in Prince Edward Island, he was the son of the late Temple and Florence (MacDonald) Longphee, and the step-son of the late Edward and Anna Longphee.
Joe formed his business, City Backhoe Service, over 40 years ago. From a one truck operation, Joe and his family grew the business to provide professional and quality services in the Moncton area. He was also an avid snowmobiler who truly loved the many rides to "The Camp" with family and friends. Competition drag racing was his passion where he exceled over the years in races around the province. He also enjoyed the many fishing trips to Newfoundland.
Joe looked forward to meeting his friends for Sunday breakfast and spending the summers at his trailer in Shediac. Above all, Joe's greatest joy in life was his family.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Jeannette (Dutcher); seven children: Joan, Joyce (Steve), Jim, Jeff (Paula), Jenny (Mike), John (Angela), and Jason, all of Moncton; 10 grandchildren: Trevor (Kristin), Nicholas, Angela (Jon), Sadie (Alexandre), Bianca, Jordan, Brenna, Madison, Monica, and Jared; one sister, Eleanor; four half-sisters: Viola, Beverley, Linda, and Margaret; one half-brother, Earl; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Eddie; one sister, Mary; two half-brothers: Kenneth and David.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic church, 340 Dominion Street, Moncton on Monday April 11 at 11 am. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe. Memorial donation may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or a charity of your choice.
