COMEAU, Douglas Joseph – age 79, Arcadia, Yarmouth Co., passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, April 7, 2016 in the QE II Health Sciences Centre (Infirmary Site), Halifax. Born November 4, 1936 in Melbourne, he was a son of the late Fred and Ruth (Nickerson) Comeau. Other than having served three years with the Canadian Armed Forces (2nd Bttn. Guards), Doug was a career truck driver, a job that brought him great happiness and for which he had a great passion. Until this past February, Doug was still driving for Paturel International, where he was respected and well-liked. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155 Wedgeport. Doug leaves behind his common-law partner and best friend, Shirley Taylor, as well as two sons, Doug (Wendy) Comeau Jr., Acton, ON and Chris (Kendra) Comeau, Irishtown, NF, along with grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, David, Blake, Emma and two great-grandchildren, Makston and Koen. Also surviving are brothers, Albert (Emmi) Comeau, Yarmouth; Donnie (Carol) Comeau, Arcadia; Kenny (Brenda) Comeau, Braemar and a sister, Gloria (Wayne) Saulnier, Melbourne. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Virginia (Fraughton) Comeau. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday with a Royal Canadian Legion Service at 7:30 p.m., followed by prayers at 8 p.m., all at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, where a funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 11, Rev. Mr. Stephen Bourque officiated. Cremation followed, with interment at a later date in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Melbourne. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund or to a charity of choice.
