Passed away on April 3, 2016 at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at 75 years of age, Merona Margaret Gibbons of Main Brook. Merona was born April 15, 1940 to Leander and Minnie Mitchelmore of Green Island Cove. In 1946 her family moved to Main Brook. In 1959 she moved to St. John’s to work in the hospital. There she met her husband, David Gibbons. They married on May 15, 1961. In 1962 she moved back to Main Brook to start her family. She had three daughters and two sons. In 1970 she started her own business, Gibbons & Sons. In 2000 she retired. She leaves to mourn her sons David (Gloria) Gibbons, and James Gibbons; daughters Donna Gibbons (Faron Caines), and Shirley (Graham) Powell; grandchildren Shawna Colbourne, Mark Powell, Darren Patey, and Derek Patey; great-grandchildren Jenna Colbourne, Monica Kelloway-Gibbons, and Jackson Powell; brothers Primus Mitchelmore, Baxter (Melinda) Mitchelmore, and Harvey (Marilyn) Mitchelmore; sisters Shirley Simms, Sybil (Lloyd) Piercey, and Inga (Leslie) Coombs. She is predeceased by her husband David Gibbons Sr., daughter Roberta Mitchelmore, grandson Scott Gibbons, parents Leander and Minnie Mitchelmore, brothers Howard Mitchelmore, and Truman Mitchelmore, brother-in-law Sterling Simms, and sister-in-law Mae Mitchelmore. Visitation took place at St. Mark’s Anglican Church from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 6 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Lourdhu officiating. Interment followed at Roman Catholic Cemetery in Main Brook. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard funeral director.
