It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of a very loving husband, father and grandfather, Gerald Daniel McNeil, age 71, of Westmount, on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at home.
Born on Aug. 14, 1944, he was the son of the late Daniel “Blue Eyes” and Catherine (McBride) McNeil. In 1968 he married the love of his life Sandra (MacIntyre) McNeil, in Toronto, Ont.,
Gerald graduated from George Brown College in Toronto. He was a welder at the Sydney Steel Corporation from 1973-2000. He was an avid card player, Johnny Reid fan, baseball player, soccer coach, boxing fan, and Scouts Canada Volunteer.
Gerald was a great storyteller of the good old days growing up in Glace Bay. His famous expression for dispensing advice, “There are two kinds of people in this world. The awares, and the dimly awares. Don’t be dimly lit.”
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughters, Lindsay (Patrick), New Zealand, Cheryl (Alan), Toronto; sons, Sean (Carol), George’s River, Chad (Tanya), Howie Center; granddaughters, Kirsty, Rachel; grandson, Harrison (Little Buddy). He is also survived by brother, Francis (Marie), Reserve; sister, Marilyn (Patrick Murphy), Halifax; nieces, Lisa, Holly, Katherine; nephew, Francis Jr.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Daniel Jr.
Cremation has taken place, visitation will be Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 1-3 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home.
