It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Marc Patrice Boudreau, 30 years old, in his apartment at Bedford, N.S., on April 14, 2016.
Born in Chéticamp, on April 27, 1985, he was the son of Patrice and Fedora (Aucoin). Many knew Marc, or as many referred to him as P’tit Marc, for his amazing talents as a fiddler and fine entertainer.
As Marc was growing up in Point Cross, there was never a dull moment. He was always juggling between his love for riding his dirt bike or four-wheeler, playing sports especially hockey and golf, being part of La Swing du Suête dance troupe, the band Anonym, school, hanging around with his friends and always ready for the next opportunity to perform on stage. Little did his parents know when they gave him his first fiddle at the age of eight years old, that Marc would turn out to be a well-known entertainer, playing alongside people that he looked up to, including some of his idols, Natalie MacMaster, Ashley MacIsaac, Howie MacDonald and numerous others.
Graduating from École NDA in 2003, Marc pursued his studies at Le Collège de l’Acadie in Méteghan, Nova Scotia. He graduated in 2004 as a paramedic and worked passionately at this career until 2011. Much involved in his music at this stage, he decided to take it more seriously and played frequently. He also worked for Primerica as district manager in Halifax where he took the Life Qualification Program and obtained his licence to sell life insurance.
Marc’s passion and dream of becoming a professional musician did not happen overnight. It was hard work but he kept at it until it was just perfect. No stranger to the stage, even at a very young age, Marc was a crowd pleaser and always captured the audience with his incredible charm and fine talent. Fans loved when Marc would play a tune for the others to dance to and then he would join in, step dancing while continuing to play his fiddle. Marc’s stage presence and command of music at a very young age made him a popular musician in various concerts and ceilidhs. He was very proud of his CD Recordings; Steppin’ It Up and Marc Boudreau –Live at the Doryman Pub as well as other musicians that he recorded with over the years.
To know Marc was to love him. His smile and “joie de vivre” was contagious and through his music and kind heart, he touched the souls of many in his short time with us. His first love was the fiddle and family gatherings. He loved driving and cars, cheering for his favourite hockey team; Les Montréal Canadiens, snowmobiling, playing cribbage and cards with his buddies, running La Mi-Carême and was a natural with children and enjoyed spending time with Jonah Mae and other young relatives and friends.
Marc was a beloved son, big brother and stepdad. Deeply saddened as we say good-bye, he leaves behind his parents and his brother Guy (Lorna), his companion Megan Shepard and her daughter, Jonah Mae. He will be greatly missed by his many uncles, aunts and special cousins.
Marc was part of a broader musical family; his passing will be deeply felt by the Celtic community of Cape Breton and the Acadian region.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Paulite and Julitte Boudreau and Johnny and Marie-Zabine Aucoin.
Visitation will take place on Monday, April 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Chéticamp Funeral Home and the funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Chéticamp with Fr. Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. After the funeral, everyone is welcome to join the family for a small reception and Celebration of Life for Marc at the Doryman Pub & Grill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, as well as your charity of choice.
