Vera Matthews
MATTHEWS, VERA ISABEL MARY
1922 – 2016
Vera Matthews formerly of Killarney Road, Riverview, passed away peacefully at the Grass Nursing Home, Riverview on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Born in Colchester, England, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edith Meckiff.
She is survived by her daughter, Lindsey Matthews (Ron Saulnier) of Riverview and her son, David of Jasper, a sister, Joan Marshall of England, 5 grandchildren; David, Jesse, Amy, Bill and Doug, great-grandson, Taylor, and several nieces and nephews and their families overseas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Vivian Matthews and two sisters; Joyce and Hilda.
After finishing school in Colchester, Vera became a nurse and worked at a children's hospital in London during World War II. Shortly following the war, she married Vivian, and a few years later they immigrated to Canada where he was employed with CN in Moncton. Kept busy with two young children, Vera found time to develop a passion for painting and eventually entered some of her artwork in major competitions. She loved to spend time with her family, at home or at her favorite beach at Caissie Cape, and travelled often to visit them in Alberta or in England. Vera worked in the x-ray department at The Moncton Hospital for several years before retirement.
In honoring Vera’s wishes there will be a private graveside service at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
