LEIGHTON, ELIZABETH JANE "BETTY"
(1937-2016)
Mrs. Betty Leighton of Castalia, Grand Manan Island passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Grand Manan Hospital with her family by her side. Born at Grand Manan she was the daughter of the late Leamon and Margaret (Lakie) Gilmore.
Betty and her husband had a trucking business for many years. She was not only the secretary but Betty was also the truck driver as well as the home maker raising their family. She volunteered from time to time at the Grand Manan Fire Department with various events, and helped as a Sunday School teacher at her church.
Betty is survived by one daughter Ellen Stanley of Blacks Harbour, two sons Andrew Leighton (Donna Dean) and Jordon Leighton of Grand Manan; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One brother Leonard Gilmore of Sussex.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Darwyn in 2014.
Visiting will take place at Immanuel Family Church on Monday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will take place at the Church on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Rev. George Clark and Mark Munn officiating. The interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
