Edwin Forsyth

Passed on: April 25th, 2016

Ed passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016. Ed was born in Moose Jaw on January 31, 1933 to Annie and Harvey Forsyth and was one of six children (Neal, Don, Olive, Gerald, Ed and Ray). Ed grew up in the Lake Valley District and moved to Moose Jaw to attend high school. After a move to Calgary in 1952, Ed married Elaine Perskas on September 20, 1958. Ed worked for CP Express and Transport for most of his work life – moving to Calgary, Winnipeg, Regina, Vancouver, Mississauga and ultimately back to Calgary where he and Elaine retired. Retirement saw Ed stay very busy – he volunteered as a “White Hatter” at the Calgary Airport for 10 years where his outgoing and friendly personality shone. Woodwork was a large part of Ed’s life and everyone who knew him became the owner of something he had handcrafted. Ed and Elaine owned a cabin in Alberta for several years which they enjoyed very much playing golf during the day and cards in the evening. They also travelled all over Canada and the U.S. in their little RV and on bus tours, with several trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Spain and more in the company of family and friends. Ed is predeceased by his parents Annie and Harvey, wife Elaine, brothers Neal, Don and Gerald and sister Olive Thul. Ed is survived by his daughter Adrienne, and his son Jeff (Cindy) Forsyth and granddaughter Kelly (Scott) Mendonca; as well as Ed’s brother Ray (Rowena) Forsyth, sister-in-law Joyce Forsyth, brother-in-law Jack Thul, and sisters-in-law Donna Olson and Carol Connolly. Also left to cherish Ed’s memory are many nieces, nephews and friends. Ed will be remembered very fondly for his friendliness, gentleness, generosity and fun loving ways. Ed’s family send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Extendicare Moose Jaw for their kindness, care, compassion and attention to Ed over the past two years. A private family gathering will be held in memory of Ed with interment to take place in Calgary at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined, however, a donation in Ed’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. In living memory of Ed, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
