William 'Billy' Holm

Passed in: South Bar
Passed on: April 28th, 2016

It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Billy Holm on April 28, 2016 at the Celtic Court Guest Home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Billy and Cecilia (Gillis) Holm.
Billy was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 682 where he spent many years as a pipefitter, working at many major projects throughout Cape Breton to include the Heavy Water Plant and the modernization of Sydney Steel to list a few. Later on Billy owned and operated Hub Taxi, a local taxi service where he developed many relationships within the community.
In his early years you could find Billy in the ring where he had a passion for boxing and fighting in genera, which he gained from his Uncles Henry, Carl, Billy (Father) and Emil, who were known as the fighting Danes all of which were inducted into the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame back in 1986. Billy will always be remembered as a force to be reckoned with even into his later years.
Billy was also an avid horseman where he trained and raced horses at Tartan Downs. Raising and training hunting dogs, as well as a general love of the outdoors, nature, and animals, continued throughout his life.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Beverly (Fraser); son Billy; daughter Rhonda; grandchildren Brett and Mitchell; son Eric (Cathy), grandchildren Jennifer, Mason, and Maddie; great-grandchildren Kendall and Carleigh. Also survived by his sisters Clare, Lorraine, Sheila and his brother Billy; brother-in-law Alex (Helena) Fraser; sisters-in-law Carolyn Miles and Harriet (Joe) Higgins, also many nieces and nephews.
Special Thank You to the amazing nurses and staff at Celtic Court. The care and constant support will always be remembered. This meant so much to our family during this difficult time.
Respecting Billy’s final wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, New Waterford. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service to include family and friends will be held at a later date.
Words of comfort can be sent to family at www.mclellanfuneralhome.com.
