It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maynard Herman George age 69 of Amherst announce his peaceful passing on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS with his family by his side.
Born in Shelburne, NS he was a son of the late Alfred and Sadie Mae (Atkinson) George.
Maynard was a loving quiet and laidback man. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved blazing the trails on his ATV with his wife and best friend by his side.
He was always happy behind the wheel and retired from the Department of Transportation after 35 years of service.
Maynard enjoyed travelling with the carnival during the summer months where he made many lasting friendships and memories.
He will be sadly missed by his large circle of family and friends and his faithful companion and much loved dog Zoe.
Leaving to mourn is his loving wife of 50 years Joanie (Tower), his children Joey (Connie), Joel (Lisa) of Amherst, Dwayne (Nicole) of St. John’s, NL, Eugene (Nadine) of Truemanville and Brian Davis (Mandy) of Shelburne, grandchildren Jonathan, TC, Cody, Nicholas, Kayla, Tyler, Seth, Vangie, Brandi, Dawson, Taylor, Tori and Tanner, great grandchildren Wyatt, Denver, Payton, Aiden, Riley and Gavin, his brother Leroy George of Sardis, BC and many nieces and nephews as well as several brothers and sisters in law.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son Alfred, sister Lydia Byrne, brothers Eugene and Lawrence and his special in laws Arthur and Bella (Ma) Tower.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-9906).
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 2 p.m. from First Baptist Church, Amherst with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.
Interment will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.
Memorial donations in Maynard’s memory may be made to the Cumberland Hospice Society.
