Leger, Alfred “Fred”
1928-2016
Alfred “Fred” Léger, 87, of Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Friday May 6, 2016. Born in St-Paul-de-Kent, he was a son of the late Jude and Edna (LeBlanc) Leger.
Fred was the founder and past proprietor of Elmwood Home Hardware. Prior to this, he was the business agent for the Carpenter’s District Council (Drywall and Acoustic local) of Toronto and areas. An avid upright base player, he was a member of the York County Boys band which was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed playing regularly with local musicians in Moncton and Florida until recently. He acquired his Private Pilot Certificate in 1995, an accomplishment he was proud of when he was 65. He loved to play golf as well as travel with his wife around the world and spend his winters in Florida. 
Alfred is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie (Boucher); two children: Alvin (Rachelle) and Gisèle Martin (Michael); two grandchildren: Luc and Melanie; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Edmée, Aquila, Dorilla, Yvon, Maximin, Marie and Lionel.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) from where the funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday May 11 at 10:30 am. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 6 to 9 pm and Wednesday from 9:30 am until time of service. Interment will be in St-Paul parish cemetery.
