Heather Scanlan

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Heather Elizabeth Scanlan. Heather passed away on Monday May 9, 2016 at the Shiretown Nursing Home in Pictou surrounded by family & friends.
Heather was born on May 31, 1966, the youngest of three children to her doting parents, Harold and the late Elva Smith. Heather was born and raised in Pictou and graduated from the Pictou Academy. She continued her education and graduated from Business College in Truro. She had a lengthy career as manager of the Pictou County Farmer's Mutual Insurance in Pictou.
Heather was predeceased by her mother, Elva Smith.
She is survived by her husband of more than 20 years, Ken Scanlan; stepchildren, Kim Pettipas-Scanlan, Wendy (Kastriot) Scanlan & Justin Scanlan; her father, Harold Smith; brother, Richard (Patti) Smith; sister, Lynn (Gregor) Hardy; 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 4 step-grandchildren, 1 great-niece, 1 great-nephew, and many dear friends. Heather's loving nature will be remembered by all who knew her.
During her lengthy struggle with MS, she was never known to complain. She was always more concerned about others rather than herself, with a generosity matched by few.
She had a life full of laughs right to the end and was never shy of telling those dearest that she loved them.
A special thank you for the love and support of Heather's lifelong friend, Trina; dear friend, Kim; caregivers/friends, Rose and Betty-Jean. Heather's family would like to express their thanks to the staff of the Shiretown Nursing Home for treating and loving Heather like she was part of their family.
Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. A Celebration of Remembrance will be held 11 AM Friday in the McLaren Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Norman Marple officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
