Ivar Hoback

Passed in: Innisfail, Alberta, Canada
Passed on: November 17th, 2015

On November 17th 2015 our family lost our dearly loved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Ivar Maurice Hoback at the Sunset Manor in Innisfail, AB. A man of a deep faith, Dad was also kind and sweet with a mischievous sense of humour. Dad was born on May 24, 1930 and lived a full, rich life. Not only was he a full-time farmer with his brother, Nils, on the farm their parents (Daniel & Maria Hoback) homesteaded northwest of Canwood, Saskatchewan, he was also the President of the local phone company that brought underground telephone lines to the area. He also worked as a plumber, and electrician bringing in-door plumbing and electricity to many homes that never had these conveniences before. A visionary, he also convinced the “powers that be” to dig underground gas lines in preparation for the gas that was destined to come. Dad also volunteered for many local committees and even ran for federal politics. All this while making time to take his 5 children to all their numerous activities and taking them to Disneyland, twice! Dad’s deep faith led him to participate and be a member of The Pentecostal Church, and also attended the Covenant Church and the Prince Albert Alliance Church where many lifelong friendships were formed and cherished. Dad married our wonderful Mom, Caroline (nee Moberg) on October 24th, 1959. She married him even after he tried to impress her with his driving skills by driving his new car up a ski hill. Ok, it was Saskatchewan but he still was able to do it while all the other cars weren’t. He got many a laugh out of this adventure. A year after Mom tragically passed away on November 5th, 2006, Dad moved out to Vancouver Island to enjoy the warmer lifestyle and be close to family there. After five years he started to miss the prairies and his family there so he moved to Red Deer, AB where he resided until being called Home. Dad will be forever remembered and cherished by his children; Brendon (Karen) Hoback of Limon, Costa Rica , Debbie (Julian) Veuger of Red Deer, Darcy (Rick) Silas of Sidney, BC, Randy (Jerri) Hoback, of Shellbrook, Saskatchewan and Tammy (Dan) Moreland of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Grandchildren; Britany and Naima Hoback Smith of Limon Costa Rica, Daniel Bootsman, Christian (Chelsea) Bootsman, Melissa (Eric) Day all of Red Deer, AB. Kashmere Silas of Sidney, BC. Alysia Hoback of Vancouver, BC, Brock Hoback, London, U.K., Dawson Moreland of Lunenburg, NS. Great grandchildren; Heidi, Elijah, Ezekiel, Eden and Eve Bootsman and Eddie Day. Dad was predeceased by his wife Caroline Hoback, and parents Daniel & Maria Hoback and brother, Nils. Dad will be buried next to his wife at Dry Creek Cemetery, Canwood, SK.
