Hazel Sylvia Tingley

Hazel Sylvia Tingley

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hazel Sylvia Tingley age 70 of Amherst announce her passing on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS after a brief illness with her family by her side.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Courtney and Jennie Mae (Gould) Cole.
Hazel was a thoughtful and unwavering wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Marking special days, like a birthday or Christmas, was never an afterthought for her; she always put considerable effort into what that special something needed to be to mark the occasion and then made it happen. Hazel was proud of her family and her family of her. She made us all feel loved unconditionally, even when teaching a needed life lesson.
At her core she had the heart of an artist. Hazel expressed herself in many ways; cartoons lampooning the subject, humorous poems to mark a special occasion, her journaling that captured her view of events of the day, her portrait painting, a custom quilt that captured the benefactors life so well, sewing Halloween costumes for all her kids and grandkids that were one of a kind, and her many design updates to her home over the years. Through it all we were all taken by her talent yet she was always hesitant in accepting praise - thinking her efforts somehow fell short.
Hazel was a kind and generous person. She never hesitated to open her home to whoever needed - more then a few of her children's friends found themselves welcomed during times of need. She never hesitated to offer her considerable talents and time to whoever asked.
She leaves behind her husband of 51 years Keith, her children Douglas (Catherine) of Florenceville, NB, Jennifer (John) Hackett of Halifax, Melony (Michael) Godreau of Canning, NS and Leigh-Ann Tingley (Jason) of Amherst, grandchildren Lindsay, Alek and Kirby Hackett, Meredith and Olivia Tingley and Samantha and Brody Tingley, brother Walter Cole of Amherst and sister Dorothy Dupuis of Bible Hill and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Hazel was predeceased by sisters Shirley and Sarah and brother Daniel.
A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 1 – 4 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-9906)
