It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Dad, Vernon Butler LaRoche. Dad passed away peacefully at the Victoria Union Hospital on Wednesday, May 11th, 2016 surrounded by his family. Vernon will be sadly missed by his surviving family; Darlene (Ben) Futerko - Garrett (Michelle) Jordan; Shawn, Marley, Andrew; Tammy (Wendell) Cody; Debbie (Victor) Hoey - Jennifer, Meghan (Andrew) Bird, Kyle, Preston, Sawyer; Amber (Kevin); Barry (Shannon) LaRoche - Brennan, Braden, Mikayla, Morgan; Brett (Arlie) Maizie, Emmett; Brad (Louise) LaRoche - Ashley, Brittni, Katie; Darcy Wykes - Eric (Holly), Adam (Justine) Kailer, Keagan; Joel; Trina (Clint) Usselman - Logan, Sydney. Vernon was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, his parents, Raymond and Margaret (Bridge) LaRoche; Step-Mother, Ellen Braeger and his in-laws, John and Matilda Welch, his grandson Collin, his sister Joyce, many brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and many other special relatives. Vernon was born on April 17, 1926 on the Bridge homestead in the Northern Light Community. On December 13th, 1947 he married the love of his life, Ruth Welch. In 1958, they decided to move their young family from the farm to Prince Albert where dad started work at Burns Meats. He then moved on to become a postman for Canada Post where he later owned and operated his own parcel truck. His claim to fame was delivering an envelope to Prime Minister Diefenbaker. Vernon’s greatest passion in life was the farm, so in 1967 they returned to the family homestead where dad worked hard to provide a wonderful life for his family. It was here, together, they raised 6 children and were blessed with 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In 1986 dad retired and they moved to Birch Hills where they spent many hours gardening and keeping a beautiful home. Vernon and Ruth’s home, no matter where, was filled with family and friends gathering for coffee, cards and laughter. As years passed, Dad found himself having to care for Mom. He was a wonderful nurse and caregiver but as time would tell, their needs were greater. Brad and Louise opened their home and mom and dad enjoyed their support for a year. In 2011 the Good Shepherd was their final home as a couple. It was here that Mom and Dad celebrated 65 years of marriage. Dad became a resident at the Herb Bassett home in May 2015 where he received extraordinary care until his final days. Dad celebrated his 90th birthday last month. What a wonderful day he had as the room was filled with laughter, love and pure joy. Dad was a kind, generous, gentle soul that loved his family at all times without judgement. Dad had a special spark which shone brightly throughout his life. The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to all the staff at the Good Shepherd, Victoria Hospital and the Herb Bassett. Many, many of the nurses that cared for dad hold special memories with us. God Bless you all for the work you do. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jeanne d’Arc Roman Catholic Church, Domremy, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
