Nelson-It is with heavy hearts and lots of tears that we announce the passing of Marvin Norman Nelson. husband, dad, grandpa & great grandpa, age 75, on Tuesday April 26, 2016 at the Regina General Hospital with his family by his side. Marvin (aka-Sonny) was born on October 18, 1940 on the NE 8-14-9 quarter to John and Lydia (Seibel) Nelson. He was the youngest, having 2 older sisters, Dorothy and Ellen. He attended Wiwa school till grade 2, then finished grade 3-12 in Swift Current. Marvin loved all sports, excelling at hockey! While attending the University of Saskatchewan he met the love of his life, Shirley Helen Leask, marrying on March 12, 1960. They then moved back to the family farm, raising 5 children, Norman, Kelly, Janice, and the twins Randy & Sandy. Marvin was a successful farmer, one of the first to try zero till, never afraid to try new things. Family was everything to Marvin, he loved his kids and grandkids unconditionally, he loved family reunions and reminiscing, planned and impromptu get togethers-always giving the best hugs. Shirley was Marv's biggest fan as he played hockey until the late 80's. Marvin was involved in many aspects of the community of Hodgeville, playing sports, coaching his sons in hockey, retiring to sports fan, a member of the Elks Lodge, rec board, rail retention committee, & investing group. He was best known for his smile, his laugh, and his great sense of humor that will be missed by all. Marvin loved life to the fullest, he loved to talk farming, politics, visiting with anybody, auction sales-rarely coming home empty handed, having a beer or beers, telling stories, which sometimes never got finished as he was laughing to hard, hugs-giving and receiving, cheering for his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, his hot tub, chocolate cake-always needing a second helping, he like to buy the latest gimmicks- especially exercise equipment. He loved to travel- Cuba, Disneyland, Mexico, Hawaii, New Brunswick, cruises, and especially Las Vegas, but was always happy to come home to the farm. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Shirley, his children, Norman; Kelly & Rena and their children Kalven & Ellie; Janice & Roche Rumpel and their children Nevin (Ainslee & Chesney) & Matt; Randy & Cathy and their children Lauren & Julia; Sandy & Terry Krauchek and their children Blade (Nicole & Taytum), McAyla, Emma, & Chayne. His sister Dorothy (Orville) Stormyr; brothers-in-law Don (Kathy) Leask, Ken Leask, sister-in-law Lois (Dennis) Kaye, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Lydia, his parents-in-law Bill and Sophie Leask, sister Ellen, brother-in-law Gordon Kinnaird, grandchild Steele Davie. The family would like to thank the staff of CCU & CSU of the Regina General Hospital for their care and compassion. A HUGE THANK YOU - to all the family & friends who attended or sent emails, texts, or calls. A special thank you to the community of Hodgeville. In memory of Marvin, donations made to the Hodgeville Community Hall or donors choice would be appreciated by the family. The funeral service was held Monday, May 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Hodgeville Community Hall with Pastor Dion Grimm officiating. Nephew Robert Kinnaird piped the family in and out. Ushers were Tom Schwartz and Arlie Nelson. The eulogy and tributes were shared by Janice Rumpel, Barry Flichel, grandchildren Ellie, McAyla, Blade & Chayne. A picture tribute by granddaughter McAyla Krauchek. Reception luncheon served by the Hodgeville Royal Purple followed the service. Interment was held on Tuesday May 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Memory Gardens Cemetery. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
