Anna May  Walsh

Passed in: Neil's Harbour
Passed on: May 15th, 2016

It is with joyful tears and broken hearts, that we announce the reunion of our mother with our father on May 15, 2016.
A mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Anna May Walsh , 89, passed away peacefully at Highland Manor, Neil's Harbour.
She was the daughter of the late George Murray and Annie Kennena (MacDermid) MacLeod, Wreck Cove.
As a young teenager, mom moved to Sydney with her family and it was there where she met and married our father.
Mom was a member of First United Church, Sydney, and a member of the "Club Girls," which was a true friendship lasting over 50 years.
She was the core of our family that kept everyone united and called to check in on a regular basis.
Our mother, a compassionate, warm-spirited homemaker, always lent a helping hand to those in need. Whether offering a warm meal or a place to stay, the door was always open to friends and family. In her early years, during the day she also cared for 12 children whom she adored as if they were her own. She had an incredible smile and sense of humour. Her laughter was contagious.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (George) Burton, Alberta; sons, George (Claudia) Walsh, Englishtown; Lawrence (Jean) Walsh, South Harbour; Kenneth Walsh, Sydney. Grandchildren, Shelley (Andy) Barter, Calgary; Scott (Jennifer) Walsh, Florida; Stephanie (Leo) Milley, Alberta;
Jennifer (Tim), Sydney; Annie (Justin), Halifax; Kyle Walsh, Sydney. Great-grandchildren, Sarah, Faith and Grace, Leo and Alexis. Also she is survived by many nieces and nephews here in Cape Breton and British Columbia.
Mom is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Reginald Walsh; sister, Ray Collier and brother, Allister MacLeod.
Many heartfelt thanks to Highland Manor and Buchanan Memorial Hospital staff for their care and compassion shown to our mother over the past four years.
As per mom's wishes, in lieu of flowers, a donation could be made to the Highland Manor, Community Homeless Shelter, or a charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held Sunday, May 22, 2016, from 1-2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with special niece, Rev. Roslyn MacLeod officiating.
Interment to follow in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
As mom always said “See you in the movies.”
