James Gillis "Gil" Collins

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of James Gillis "Gil" Collins, surrounded by his loving family, at the QEII Health Science Center on Sunday, May 15, 2016.
Gil will be remembered for his infectious smile, countless stories and love for his family. He was an honored athlete, teacher and mentor to many. Among his many accomplishments, Gil was a founding board member for The P.E.I. Right to Life Association, a board member for Catholic Family Services, an inductee into the PEI/SDU Sports Hall of Fame and the Football P.E.I. Hall of Fame, and recognized as a four letter man at SDU.
Husband of Mary Louise Collins and the late Anna Collins (nee MacAdam). Father of Matt (Bruceyene), Leslie (Stephen) Dowling, Greg (Janet Poirier) and Gillis Alban (G.A.) deceased. Loving Poppy of Joshua (Katelyn Fraser), Ashley, Sarah, Meagan (Jeff MacKenzie), Michelle (Pat) Drouin and great-grandfather to Jamie, Regina and Luke. Brother of Michael (deceased) (Lil), Patricia, “Neil” Father William O.F.M., Dolores (deceased) (Syl Kramer), Bernard (Delphine, deceased) Vincent (Karen), Allan (Laurie), Martin (Eileen), Mary Margaret (deceased) (Dick Hoering) and Glenn. Brother-in-law of Gerry, Rita (Cecil) McCarthy (deceased), Carl (deceased) Helen, A.J. (Ethel) (deceased), Francis (Stashie) (deceased), Bertram "Buddy" (deceased) (Marion), Reginald (Jean) (deceased), Jean (Billy) O’Hanley, Walter "Babe" (deceased) (Daphne), Mary (Kilmer) Palmer, and Donald (deceased). Stepfather of David (Esther) MacDonald, Kim (David) Briggins, Jane (Jerry) Aguinaga and Darryl (Esther). Step grandfather of Ben, Sam, Mary, Rebekah, Jonathan, Jenna, Lauren and Chris.
Resting at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home for visiting hours on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held on Saturday with funeral mass from St. Dunstan’s Basilica at 10 a.m.
If so desired, contributions in memory of Gil may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the P.E.I. Right to Life Association.
