Denise Amies

Denise Laverne Amies (Nee Knipfel), Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend to so many, died May 14, 2016 at eighty years
of age. Predeceased by her parents Edler and Grace Knipfel, and her brother Roy, she leaves her brother Earl, sister Judy Hudson, and sister-in-law Judy Knipfel, and their children. Denise's joy in life was being with her four children, Peter (Lisa Shamata), daughter Lisa, sons Michael and Darin (Sue), and ten grandchildren: Kate, Hunter, Bronte, Shaun, Dan, Meah, Mitch, Dylan, Nicolas, and Sofia. Born in Swift Current, she came to Moose Jaw as a child with her parents. She attended King George Elementary and then Central Collegiate, worked in several downtown businesses, and at the Union Hospital Mental Health Clinic where she met David and married in 1957. Her first two children, Peter and Lisa were born in Edmonton, followed by Michael and Darin in Moose Jaw. Denise strongly supported women's rights in Canada and was a pioneer in the cause. She engaged in local efforts to improve the library and the arts, including the Cultural Centre, and Festival of Words. She was always looking out for others, and welcoming newcomers to town while still juggling her commitment to David's practice and their four children. The family is incredibly grateful for the exceptional and loving care at Pioneer Lodge. There will be no funeral service. The family will gather later this summer to celebrate her gifts to us and her contribution to our community. Friends who wish to donate in Denise's memory can please support Pioneer Lodge through the Moose Jaw Health Foundation at www.mjhf.org. In living memory of Denise, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
