We, the family, regret to announce the passing of Gregory MacLean, on Wednesday May 18, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Throughout his five year battle with cancer Greg remained positive and optimistic, never letting the disease take control of his spirit
Born in New Waterford, Greg was the son of the late Joseph ‘J.F.’ and Teresa ‘Tessie’ (Ryan) MacLean.
Greg has had many roles throughout his life, son, brother, husband, father (coaching sports teams and being a cub leader) and his most treasured role, grandfather. When Ella came along it gave Greg the hope he needed and the motivation to set goals to keep himself going. Greg received a lot of help from the cancer patient care fund, and as a way to give back he, along with his friends at the cancer centre, organized a golf tournament and raised almost $8000.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Patricia (Fewer). His two children, Shane (Jennifer Wheeler) and Crystal and his treasured granddaughter, Ella. Sister, Faith Graham; brothers, Joey MacLean and Ryan MacLean.
Besides his parents. He was predeceased by his brother, Bernard ‘Beanie’; nephew, Steven Paris and great nephew, Isaac Graham
In lieu of flowers, his family would like donations made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Patient Care Fund.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Fr. Bill Burke officiating.
