Francis Smith

Smith, Francis Thompson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband and father, Francis Thompson Smith. Born in Oxford, Nova Scotia, on September 26, 1925, he passed away on May 27, 2016.
Francis was the son of the late Francis and Luella (Thompson) Smith. He is survived by Mary Jean (Gregoire) Smith, his wife of 60 years and his children Mary Lue Springer (Reggie), Carol Ann English (Fuzzy), Curry Smith (Krista), and Wendy Smith (Laura). He leaves behind his grandchildren Ben Springer (Tara), Katie Glencross (Oliver), Conor Critchlow, Meghan Critchlow, and Spencer Smith. He is also survived by his sister Mary Alice Mercer of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Susan, and brother Howard.
Dad moved to Campbellton in 1952 to begin his career as a Chartered Accountant. He was actively involved in both his church and community during the 50 years he lived there. During that time, he was an Elder, choir member, and Sunday School teacher at the First United Church. Dad also served two terms as a city councillor. He was a long-time member of the Campbellton Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Award. Dad served many years on the Board of Directors of The Village Nursing Home and during that time was honoured with a volunteer award from the New Brunswick Nursing Home Association.
Family always came first with Dad. He enjoyed his travel trailer and the family trip across Canada was one of the highlights of his life. Dad loved conversation and good jokes; no one was a stranger to him. He loved food and NEVER missed a meal. Dad was our color commentator during Blue Jay games and the Brier. He was quite delighted that Yankee Stadium was quiet this past Thursday evening.
His family would like to thank Dr. Ann Collins, Dr. Patrick Feltmate, and the staff of the Shannex Parkland for their excellent care.
Visiting hours will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2016, and the funeral will be held on Tuesday at Wilmot United Church beginning at 2 p.m. Rev. Ellen Beairsto will officiate. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The United Church in Campbellton, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam's Funeral Home (458-9170) and online remembrances may be made at www.mcadamsfh.com.
