HOWELL, HERBERT
It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Herbert Howell, loving husband of the late Gemma (McLaughlin) Howell, which occurred on Sunday May 29, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1923 in Manchester, England he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Doyle) Howell.
Herbert was in the Royal Navy serving in the North Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the North Atlantic and WWII. Following his time in the Navy, he was employed as a Mason/Bricklayer for ACME Construction, Saint John Bricklayers and Maritime Bricklayers. He and his business partner also owned and operated their own company, Daye and Howell. Herbert was also a long time member of the Legion Branch #69.
He is survived by his children Ronnie of Kingston, Brenda (Paul) Winchester of Saint John, Sandra (Steinar) Dalen of Vancouver, Robert (Bonnie) and Paul both of Saint John, Marion (Darrell) O’Dell of Calgary, Joey and Michael both of Saint John; brothers John (Marie) of Vancouver and Peter of Tampa Bay; sister Marion (Joe) Baxter of Baltimore; grandchildren Paul, Celia, Sarah, Nicole, Stefan, Skyla, Shyanne and Jennifer; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife Gemma, he was predeceased by a daughter Margaret Anne and a brother Thomas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) By request there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
