Elias "Lee" Louis Battah passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 28, 2016 at the age of 94 at the Veterans’ Health Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick. He was born on August 25th 1921 in Neguac NB, the son of the late Harry Battah and Demerise Losier.

He was predeceased by his wife Hectorine (Bourgeois), by sisters Victoria, Norma Henretta (Tom), Winnifred Cormier (Emile), Emeline Robichaud (Pius) and by brothers Abraham (Thérese) and Nicholas.

He is survived by his sister Germaine Comeau (Fernand), brother Henry (Jeanne) and by his sons Eric and Pierre (Gabrielle), grandson Alex as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

After a lengthy courtship he married “Heckie”, the love of his life on May 13th 1957 whom he met following his World War II military service while on a trip to Saint‑Anselme NB, now Dieppe, to visit the family of a fallen comrade immediately upon returning from overseas. In 1957, Heckie and Lee set off to start a family and pursue Lee’s 35‑year management career with NB Power. Together, they lived in a number of locations throughout the province settling in Dieppe in 1971. He retired from NB Power in 1986.

Lee was a man of faith and was very active in his church having served with the Knights of Columbus and assisted during the liturgy for many years in his home parish in Saint‑Anselme. He was a humble, gracious gentleman who always placed his concern for others well above his own. After his retirement, he dutifully delivered meals for the Canadian Red Cross in Moncton and surrounding area. In their retirement Lee and Heckie travelled, but most of all he loved returning to Caraquet NB, where he grew up, to visit with friends and family and to spend time near the sea.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette’s Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858‑1900) on Thursday June 2nd from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm only.The funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint‑Anselme Roman Catholic Church, 1014 Amirault Street, Dieppe, on Friday June 3rd 2016 at 11am. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.The Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch No. 6, will hold a service of remembrance Thursday at 3:45 pm.

Donations in Lee’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick.

The family would like express its sincerest gratitude to the staff at the Veterans’ Health Centre in Moncton. Their loving care and concern brought Lee and his family great comfort.
