Charles Norman Budgell passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the age of 91 years. Charles was born to Noah and Priscilla Budgell of St. Anthony on May 24th, 1925. He married the love of his life, Bessie Dawe of Ireland Bight on August 11, 1948 and together they raised a wonderful family of six children, three boys and three girls. Following his marriage he moved with his wife to Buchans where he worked in the Buchans Mines. He returned to St. Anthony in 1950 and began his life career working in various positons within the town. Despite his full time employment he found time to be involved in community growth as a volunteer having served on early recreation committees, school boards, and as a town counsellor. He was the town’s first fire chief. During his retirement, he filled his time with woodworking, gardening, berry picking, fishing, hunting, and spending countless hours with his family. You will be forever missed and always in our hearts. He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of loving memories his wife Bessie; children Barry (Muriel), Barbara Tuttle (Wayne), Linda Coffin (Roy), Wallace (Zita), Ada Simms, (John), and Jeffrey (Sheila); grandchildren Andrea, Jennifer, Mark, Aaron, Brian, Karl, Matthew, and Ashley; great-grandchildren Zachary, Simon, Benjamin, Hannah, Kaylee, Noah, and Lana; brother Frederick; sisters-in-law Dulcie, Hilda, and Ethel and a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Noah and Priscilla, brothers Henry and Bill, and sisters Debbie and Violet. Visitation took place at the funeral home in St. Anthony after which the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 at the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony with Major Denzil Baggs officiating. Cremation followed after the funeral service. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
