It is with great sorrow and sadness that we the family of Ivan Fricker ‘Poppy’ announce that following a brief illness, poppy peacefully passed away at Buchanan Memorial Hospital in Neil’s Harbour on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 81 years of age.
Born in Neil’s Harbour to Arthur and Beatrice (Lawrence) Fricker.
Poppy was a lobster and crab fisherman his entire life, and was also very well known as an avid and passionate swordfisherman. Upon his retirement from commercial fishing, he found joy in trout and salmon fishing along the Margaree River, where he and his wife spent their summers. He was also known for his fly tying abilities. Dad was a big man with an even bigger heart, always there to lend a helping hand.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 53 years, Jane (nee Matheson), daughters, Monica (Billy) Hogan and Margaret (Jason), his grandchildren, Justin (Gelisa) Rideout, Jason (Alyssa) Rideout, Kara Hogan and Breagh Hogan, great-grandchildren, AJ and Aliyah, brothers, Joe Fricker and Rindress (Helen) Fricker as well as nieces, nephews and many other friends and relatives.
Poppy was predeceased by his parents and his two sisters Loretta Smith and Ethel Budge.
Visitation will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, June 19 and 12 until 2 p.m. on Monday at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish. Funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 20 at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church Ingonish with Fr. Lazarus Guria Celebrant.
Inurnment to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
