Died peacefully in the presence of her family at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Sunday, June 26 at the age of 101. Hazel is predeceased by her husband Harry and her brother Harry. Hazel leaves to mourn her sons Jon (Sadie Kelly) and Robert (Sylvia Bishop); daughters Andrea (Chuck Phillips) and Beta-Sue (Joe Basha); sisters Ruby Alford of California, Joyce Brain of Grand Falls and Joan LeBlanc of Gander. Also left to mourn are seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; special friends Angela Green and Genevieve Gillingham; and a wide circle of relatives and friends. Hazel was well known and respected in Gander as a businesswoman, Mayor, Minister of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and volunteer on numerous organizations. Hazel is resting at Stacey's Funeral Home in Gander with visitation on Tuesday, June 28th from 6-8 p.m., and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Memorial service will be held at Frazer Road United Church on Thursday, June 30th, 2016 at 2 p.m. Internment at All Saints Cemetery, Gander.
