NORRAD, GARY WILLIS

Announcing the passing of Gary Willis Norrad of Nackawic, NB on July 3, 2016. Gary was born in Bloomfield Ridge, NB. He was the son of the late Charles and Lona Norrad.

Gary graduated from Upper Miramichi Regional High School and also from Lineman School through NB Power. Gary worked hard at a very young age long before he was old enough for school. He worked at the camps, taking supplies up in a canoe etc. All school breaks were spent at the camps. He liked the solitude of the woods. As he got older, he guided at the camps. Then in 1963, Gary married Hazel Bruce and they set off for Quebec. Hazel taught school there and he worked at Hilton Mines. After three years there, they moved to Renfrew, Ontario where Hazel accepted a teaching job and he worked at the paper mill in Portage Du Fort. Owners of St. Anne Nackawic came calling in Ottawa so he decided to go back to NB, moved back and worked as a machine tender until his retirement at St. Anne Nackawic.

Gary is survived by his wife of almost (August 17) 53 years; his daughter, Michelle Everett (Jeff); son, Derrick Jason Norrad (Amy); his grandchildren, Kelsey Norrad (John) who was his only granddaughter, she was born on his birthday and was immediately “sweetie pies”, Micky Norrad, Damon Norrad, Justin Everett, Brandon Everett; a very special only great-grandson Liam Davidson; and step grandchildren Ward White and Dean White. Also survived by brothers, Clinton Norrad (Daisy), Beverly Norrad (Noreen); sisters, Virginia Case and Janice Pond (Harry); daughter-in-law, Tammy Norrad (Sylvain).

Besides his parents Gary was predeceased by his sister, Lona Case; brothers, Glen Norrad, Kenneth Norrad and Calvin Norrad.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at the Astle Community Centre on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 3 pm. Donations of refreshments would be appreciated. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.miramichivalleyfh.com
