It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Raymond Lumsden, on July 4, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Ray was born in Canso, N.S. on April 5, 1926, to the late Joseph and Hazel (Coulson) Lumsden. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He served in the military during the Second World War. He was a member of the Westside Legion and recently was awarded his 45 year membership pin.
Ray loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and tending to his garden. Until his retirement, he was a painting contractor.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernice (Wells); children, Raylene (Don) Langley, Breton (Nancy), Michael (Louise). He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Adam Langley, Breton Jr. and Michelle.
Besides his parents, Ray was predeceased by his siblings, Ralph, Jean, Doris, Kendall, Lynsin and son, Robert.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Cohen, VON, EHS Paramedics, staff of the Renal Clinic and all who supported us during Dad’s illness. A special thank you to neighbours, Warren and Diane Boudreau.
Visitation for Ray will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, N.S., with funeral service taking place the following day, Thursday July 7 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Loaves and Fishes.
