Anne 'Hanu' Lahanky

Born In: Sydney

Passed on: July 3rd, 2016

“God called your name so gently that only you could hear. No one heard the footsteps of the angel drawing near...softly from the shadows, there came a gentle call, you closed your eyes and went to sleep...you quietly left us all.”
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Anne Lahanky (Wodoslawsky), on Sunday, July 3rd 2016. Anne passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side.
Born in Sydney, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Dmytro and Lena (Olinyk).
Anne’s love of life revolved around her beloved husband, Don, her children, family, friends and neighbours. As a devout Christian, she was an active member of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church; participating for many years as a member of the CWL, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and was a former catechist. Her sense of community spirit was reflected by her involvement with the Kidney Foundation and MAGMA. Anne’s true passion for her Ukrainian heritage led to her co-founding the Ukrainian Club of Moncton in 1975. Her Ukrainian culture was passed on to her family by celebrating holiday gatherings with delicious Ukrainian meals, music and customs.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Anne will be sadly missed by her children, Nadia MacDonald (Saen), Terry Lahanky, Danica Lahanky Carroll (Paul), Natalie Geneau (Ron) and Gordon Lahanky; precious grandchildren, Larissa, Natasha, Sarah, Stephanie, Brittany, Joshua, Olivia and cherished great-granddaughter, Elyse. Anne is also survived by one nephew, Stefan; two nieces, Jeannie and Kathy; a cousin, Don and family in Ukraine.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her devoted husband, Donald in 2013; brother, Michael and sister, Marie.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton, N.B. (506-858-1995) on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Dominion Street and Mountain Road, on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Allison Carroll and Rev. Laurence Quinn-Morris presiding. Reception in the parish hall following the mass. Interment will be held in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
In memory of Anne, donations to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital or the St. Vincent de Paul Society would be appreciated by the family.
