Gerald Duncan Ricks

Born: September 3rd, 1934

Passed on: June 2nd, 2016

Gerald Duncan Ricks passed away on June 2, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Gerald was born on September 3, 1934 in Goose Cove to Frances and Darius Ricks. On Oct. 27, 1958, he married Carmel Bromley and together they raised 11 children. Gerald was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and had a variety of work experiences in his life including logging, fishing, carpentry, construction, and heavy equipment operator. He could turn his hand to anything - I guess we would consider him a “jack of all trades.” Gerald had a unique ability to tell stories about things that happened in his life and the many people he met along life’s journey. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his gardens and ski-doing in winter. He loved driving his truck and spending time on the community wharf. He also loved his “morning meetings” in Edward Reardon’s stage. As well, he always looked forward to visiting his sister, Angela and her husband Ron every Sunday morning. In 2003, Gerald met Juanita Powell and for the past 13 years have had a very happy and fulfilled life together. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. He leaves to mourn his children Nellie, Judy (Cyril), Philomena (Ralph), Joyce, Sharon (Steve), Daphne, Geraldine (Todd), Ross (Melissa), Roy (Treena), Ron (Heather), Robert, partner Juanita and her children Todd and Marilyn; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his lovable buddy Wince, and a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Carmel, parents Darius and Francis Ricks, brother Ron, sisters Eileen and Theresa, son-in-law Bill, and grandson Justin. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony followed by the funeral service which was held in the Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6 with Fr. Vitus Echedo officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
